I really want to throw some Porsche twists on my car...

I'd have to run adapters of course, and the 10" rear wheels may be a little excessive, but my E90 is begging for new wheels and I don't want to go the typical CSL or ZCP rep route. This E90 is the only example I could find, your thoughts?

Stretched tires? No thanks.

Too much stretch!

Alpinas.

I think that looks awful. They don't fit the lines of the E90 at all.

You bought the wrong tire size.

Seconded. They aren't even directional and the really irks me.

Or Alpina clones, any turbine-style wheels.

Do it … because I probably won't ever do it to my car.

that looks great! Do it!! If I do, I'd probably run a square set of fronts (18x7.5) so I wouldn't need to stretch my tires.

The only problem with Alpinas is that you will pay up the ass for valve stems (routed through a hollowed-out spoke in each wheel).

I'd love to.

But my wallet would like a turn at the mic.

Kinja'd!!!0

I'd also have to pay up the ass just to get a genuine set! I've heard of that, it sounds like an expensive problem for the already expensive TPMS.

Kinja'd!!! AM3R > jkm7680

The set on the car I posted WITH new tires was going for $1500.. that sounds pretty reasonable!

I'd do it, but depends on finish and color. The example photos aren't the most striking.

Also, I am putting porsche phone dials on my rabbit in the spring, after I get them powdercoated. I like the look.

Kinja'd!!! jkm7680 > AM3R
10/10/2014 at 15:40

It's probably pretty reasonable, but I can't be spending that much on wheels and tires right now.

Kinja'd!!! Milky > AM3R
10/10/2014 at 15:41

Kinja'd!!!1

Ah, they are about the same size as my wheels so I wouldn't be that different for me. But I'm looking to upgrade and not mod right now, hence why I won't get rims for it. Anyways though, this picture looks perfect imo.

yeah that's whats really making me want to do it. I'd do a less aggressive set up so it would be more functional.

What are you looking at upgrading to?

First off I should say it won't be for about a year. So this is subject to change, but I really want a Z4. Which begs the question, how has your car's reliability been?

A Porsche twist would be using a chunk of a 911 rear bumper cover.

10/10/2014 at 16:36

Kinja'd!!!0

Oh it's been great so far. Only things I've done so far is a new battery and a new windshield (my fault).

I have the naturally aspirated inline six, not the turbo. That particular z4 has the n55 engine, which is the better of the turbo engines. It was made to replace the n54 and fix all the common issues. It did that well, so it should be pretty good, only negative is it doesn't respond AS WELL to mods. You can still get 350whp relatively easy and cheaply though. I'm not sure if this got the same warranty as the n54, but plagued parts were warrantied for 8 years/100k miles.

Kinja'd!!!

alpinas look HOT. See my reply to Silvestro. I might actually end up just picking up some used HRE's or BBS's. Lots of great deals to be had if I'm willing to run M3 fitment.

Originally I wanted to get some custom BC forged wheels, but I don't want to drop $5k on wheels.

Man … I heard at some point there was a difference in the engines, but I just went to a forum and holy hell. People just arguing about the tiniest differences. I'll clearly have to look more into it when the time comes.

Thanks for the info though.

no problem at all. Z4's are sweet rides, I wouldn't mind picking one up myself.

Yeah it's a little overwhelming haha, that's the one plus of being NA. Everything is simple!

be aware, there are 2 different porsche twist wheels. the difference is subtle, but if you know what youre looking for you'll see the differences. the easiest place to look is where the spokes intersect the outer rim of the wheel.

one model first appeared on the 993 turbo, and subsequently on 996 carreras. it is pictured in on the crossfire in one of the comments by milky.

the second model appeared on the 996 turbo (and maybe was a special option on 996 c4s's, but i'm not sure.) this is the model that youre showing on the bmws in the post.

the 996 turbo twists are more expensive and harder to find than the 993 turbo twists, because of the use of 993 twists on 996 carreras.

there indeed replicas of each available for reasonable costs, but be aware that the replicas have solid spokes, as opposed to the hollow spokes of the original factory wheels. also be aware of the various wheel widths and offsets used to account for the wide bodies vs narrow bodies of the turbos and NA 996s. i guess i'm saying this because these are frequently for sale on ebay, and also frequently, all of the information about the wheels is not provided.

No, I haven't had it for a while. I parked it behind a bar one night, took a cab home. Someone tried to steal it, but instead took the dash cluster, trim, seats, hood, trunk lid, wheels, various other bits and bobs.
